A sewer bypass system is a temporary setup that pumps the collection system sewage from point A to point B in order to repair and/or replace parts of the system. The mechanical pumps can be either electric submersible pumps or gas/diesel surface pumps.
The down stream sewer line is blocked off and as the sewer rises the bypass suction tubes will suck the sewer up and out of the existing sewer system into a temporary sewer pipe system that is setup on the surface and discharged past the location of work area. This allows the contractor to have full access to all the pipe and manholes that require repair, rehabilitation, and/or replacement without active sewer flow.
